Toni Hansen's Live Trading Room is located on the
IRC server Othernet
(http://www.othernet.org). The
room's name is #MainStreet. Several programs are available for
accessing
the room. Two popular platforms are mIRC (http://www.mirc.com)
and Ice
Chat (http://www.icechat.net). Ice
Chat is free, while mIRC requires a
one-time registration fee after 30 days.

MIRC CHATROOM LOGIN
INSTRUCTIONS:
Important
Note: A
moderator MUST BE PRESENT in order to access the channel. If you are
unable to access it afterhours, please stop by again during the regular
trading week! This chatroom is text-based.
The
mIRC chat platform can be found at http://www.mirc.com.
It comes with a 30 day free trial. This former shareware product
requests a nominal registration fee after 30 days, but if you already
have mIRC, it is easy to change the configuration to accommodate the
change in the server. The quick and dirty method is to type the
following into any channel:
/server
irc.othernet.org:6667
and then type
/join #mainstreet
You can then change your
configurations under mIRC Options to log you in automatically as shown
below.
When starting from scratch,
once you have installed your mIRC, which you can do in another
directory from an existing mIRC to avoid losing previous
configurations, open the program and it will ask you to complete your
personal login information. If you have used the Main Street Chat Room
in the past, please log in using your existing username.
Before connecting to the
server, look to the left and under Connect, choose Servers.
Under Servers, scroll up to Othernet with the subheader Random server
and select OK.
Now select Connect to server if it does not do so automatically and an
mIRC Favorites box will appear. Type #MainStreet and select Join.
If you have not used othernet in the past and do not have a registered
nickname, it will invite you to register at this point. Select the
Othername Name tag near the top left of the screen and then type /msg
NS register and then type the password you would like associated with
this nickname. If I choose "apple" for instance, I would type the
following
/msg
NS register apple
and then
hit
enter.

You must confirm your nick every 20 days for it to stay registered. You
can do this automatically by hitting Alt and then + and then O (as in
Options). Hold down the Alt key at the same time as you then hit the
plus sign followed by the "O". This will open up the mIRC Options menu
again. Under Connect, go to Options. Select the settings you wish to
use. I recommend selecting them all. Then choose Perform.

Next type the following:
/msg NS
AUTH
followed by the password you used to register your nick. This is:
/msg NS
AUTH
apple
in our
example.
This will keep your username registered as long as you log in once in
every 20 day period. You can type
/join
#mainstreet
under it
to
automatically log into #mainstreet when you connect.
Make sure
the "Enable perform on connect" is selected and hit "OK".

If you are
in another channel, you can type
/list
to display
a
list of available channels. Double click on #Mainstreet to join the
channel.
Important Note: A moderator
MUST BE PRESENT in order to access the channel. If you are unable to
access it afterhours, please stop by again during the regular trading
week!
