Automatic Data Processing, Inc. (ADP) provides computerized transaction processing, data communication, and information services worldwide.

I've had a fairly difficult time finding a lot of interest on the longer term charts over the last couple of weeks. Many of the positions I am watching like HSY might take up to a several months to develop. With the market in the middle of a very large range as a whole and weakening on the shorter term daily and weekly charts, I would consider risk to be higher overall at this time.

One of the stocks that did stand out as a pretty nice technical pattern was in ADP. It has been forming a monthly cup with handle and within the handle it has been forming a weekly cup with handle. The main con from a technical standpoint is that the lows could have been more rounded in 2003 to form a better cup on that time frame. With declining volume on this range and the nice range development, however, I will be watching for a breakout to the upside. $45.56 is a break in the range with the prior monthly pivot low (currently near the $40 whole number level) serving as support.

8/22/2005 iVillage, Inc. (IVIL) operates various online and offline media-based properties for women. Its properties include the iVillage.com, Women.com, gURL.com, Astrology.com, Substance.com, Promotions.com, Healthology.com, and GardenWeb.com Web sites. This stock has one of the best monthly charts I found while scanning this weekend. It is forming a very strong Cup with Handle pattern on that time frame and is just now coming into its 20 month sma support. On the weekly charts the pace is also turning over to favor a more gradual downside and stronger upside. I will look to initiate a position in this over $6.75, adding to it as it breaks $7.25 or forms favorable daily and weekly buy patterns. The prior pivot lows within this monthly triangle, which is the handle of the larger Cup with Handle, will serve as support and I will place and adjust my stop under these lows as new pivots are formed. 8/15/2005 Hospira, Inc. (HSP), a pharmaceutical and medication delivery company, engages in the development, manufacture, and marketing of specialty injectable pharmaceuticals and medication delivery systems that deliver drugs and intravenous (I.V.) fluids. I have been watching this stock for a number of weeks for a breakout above the base at $40. It has been forming a very nice range for a couple of months with declining volume. This is suggestive of a consolidation that is building up for a breakout and continuation of the prior trend. This pattern could easily take a few more weeks or even a couple more months to develop.  It would be most likely to trigger as it hits either the 20 week sma or 20 month sma. A test of the monthly 20 sma support would tend to generate the lowest risk breakout. I will be looking to keep a stop under the most recent pivot low with the base at the time of the breakout.

8/8/2005 Overseas Shipholding Group, Inc. (OSG), an independent bulk shipping company, engages in the ocean transportation of crude oil and petroleum products. The company also transports dry bulk cargo. Breaking out of the range it's been in for the past 9 months following strong earnings last week, this is a stock that looks to continue higher over the course of the next year. This breakout comes on the third test of highs and with an increase in the upside pace. I will be watching the daily charts for a buying opportunity over the next couple of weeks.

Technology stocks have been weaker than the overall market in the past year, but as other sectors start to correct, this one is likely to catch some attention. Stocks I will be watching in coming months are ADP, ALTR, CSCO, QCOM, AAPL, KLAC, VRTS, AMAT, and LLTC.  AAPL and QCOM are my favorites, but I would like to see the ranges they are beginning to form hold for several months to allow for a correction to recent activity.

8/1/2005 Evergreen Solar, Inc. (ESLR) engages in the development, manufacture, and marketing of solar power products worldwide. Its products include solar cells, panels, and systems. ESLR has been forming a weekly cup with handle and a monthly triangle. This looks to be near the start of a much longer and stronger uptrend on the monthly charts with potential to hold for a few years. Of course, this would mean a much larger stop to start with under $4.68 and the 20 month sma. If looking for a shorter trade would watch the handle of the weekly cup with handle for a base here at highs on the daily charts for an upside breakout. For a longer term hold I will likely ease into this position on pullbacks over the next few months.

7/28/2005 AnnTaylor Stores Corporation (ANN) Since March, ANN has been forming the handle of a Cup with Handle formation. It triggered a breakout over $26.12 on 7/28 with a stop under $23.63. I had wanted it to base a few more weeks before triggering, so this was a more aggressive entry. It gave another one going into the second week of August.  High: $27.50.

7/20/2005 Baxter International, Inc., (BAX) broke it's range over $38.41 to hit highs so far of $40.56. It has support at the 20 week sma.

6/6/2005 Grant Prideco, Inc. (GRP) $25.40 was the trigger for the breakout on June 9th. $23.33 was the 20 week sma. Highs of $35.51 so far. Equal move target hit. Trailing stop initiated.
